Description
The L variant of the SW-335 cylinder bed walking foot — extra-long 6.0 mm stitch and 15 mm foot clearance for decorative topstitching and thick, multi-layer leather work at production volume.
Who runs this
Same audience as the SW-335 — leathercraft, footwear, saddle and tack shops, upholstery doing tubular work. The L variant adds a longer 6.0 mm maximum stitch and 15 mm of clearance under the foot for thicker, multi-layer assemblies.
If you're sewing standard assemblies at standard stitch lengths, the base SW-335 is enough. If your work calls for extra-long visible decorative stitches or thicker stacks under the foot, step up to the L.
Why the L large-bobbin variant
- Extra-long 6.0 mm stitch. Longer stitches read cleaner as visible decorative topstitching on leather, and put fewer perforations per inch in heavy-duty seams.
- Reinforced needle system. DP×17 needles (#90–120 Nm) built for leather, canvas, and heavy synthetics, running Tex #40–92 thread without breaks.
- Same cylinder + walking foot platform. Cylinder bed for tubular work, unison feed for thick leather. Everything that works on the SW-335 works on the L variant.
Application examples
Saddle skirt
Three-layer saddle skirt construction with welt seam. The 15 mm foot clearance takes the full stack, and the unison feed keeps all three layers moving together.
Boot shaft, heavy thread
Two-layer leather boot shaft with visible decorative topstitch at the full 6.0 mm stitch length. Cylinder bed access + the clean, long-stitch western look.
Tack repair
Bridle, halter, and harness repair with heavy Tex #92 thread for long-wear field use. DP×17 needles punch clean through layered straps.
