Description

Double-needle large-bobbin needle-feed lockstitch — fixed-bar double needle (not split-bar) with twin Japanese rotary hooks for extended bobbin run. Built for medium-weight precision parallel seaming where layer count is consistent.

Who runs this

Apparel and upholstery shops doing decorative parallel-row stitching where the layer count stays the same throughout the seam. Workwear pocket attachment, light upholstery welt seams, decorative top-stitching on bags.

Not for denim or cross-seam work. Fixed-bar double needle breaks needles on cross-seams; the SW-845 split-bar variant is the fix for that. The SW-872 is the right pick when both needles see the same layer count for the entire seam.

Why fixed-bar with large bobbins

  1. Twin large-capacity Japanese hooks. Both needles get large-bobbin run length. On long parallel-row seams (welt construction, decorative top-stitching), this roughly doubles the run between bobbin changes vs standard double-needle hooks.
  2. Needle feed for layer alignment. The needles move forward through the stitch, advancing the material in sync with the bottom feed. Prevents top-layer drift on multi-layer parallel seams.
  3. Fixed-bar simplicity. Mechanically simpler than split-bar. Lower price point. Higher top-end SPM on consistent-layer work because there's no engagement complexity.

Application examples

Pocket attachment

Decorative double-row pocket attachment on workwear and casual apparel. Layer count is consistent; large bobbin extends the run between operator stops.

Welt seams

Light upholstery cushion welts in cotton or canvas. Two parallel rows of stitching reinforcing the welt without cross-seam cross-overs.

Bag decorative

Visible double-row top-stitching on canvas tote bodies and messenger bags. Decorative spec, consistent layers along the seam.
